Mahindra ScorpioAmong a slew of SUVs launched in the Indian market, two stood out, namely, Renault Duster and Mahindra Scorpio thanks to their looks and engine capabilities. Mahindra Scorpio is available in 17 trims and is sold at a price range of Rs. 7.9 lakhs to 13 lakhs (Ex showroom price, New Delhi). The Renault Duster on the other hand, is available in 13 trims and is priced in the range of Rs.7.9 lakhs to Rs.13 lakhs (Ex showroom price, New Delhi).

Looks

Mahindra Scorpio has a bigger dimension compared to Renault Duster. Both the vehicles look equally commanding on the streets. And both of them also share several features that enhances their looks these includes, adjustable head lamps and OVRMs, rear window wipers, washers and defoggers, body colour door handles and bumpers, integrated antenna and a chrome engine grille. Mahindra Scorpio additionally sports Rain sensing wipers, Alloy wheels, rear spoiler, side stepper and 17- inch of wheels. Renault Duster on the other hand brandishes a chrome garnish and 16-inch of wheels.

Passenger comforts

The interiors of both of these SUVs are designed very tastefully. Engine and Suspension

Mahindra Scorpio is powered by a 2.2-litre 120bhp 16V mHawk Engine with a displacement capacity of 2179cc attached to a 5- speed manual gearbox that is capable of churning out a commanding power of 120bhp @ 4000rpm and a hammering torque of 280Nm @ 1800-2800rpm. The Renault Duster on the other hand is equipped with a 1.5-litre 108.45bhp 16V dCi Diesel Engine with a displacement capacity of 1461cc attached to a 6-speed manual transmission box. This arrangement is capable of producing a maximum power of 108.45bhp @ 4000rpm and a maximum torque of 245Nm @ 1750rpm.

For a smoother ride, Mahindra Scorpio has attached a Double Wishbone Type, Independent Front Coil Spring to the front axle and a Multi Link Coil Spring Suspension with Anti Roll Bar to the rear axle. Additionally, Mahindra Scorpio has also used Telescopic Shock Absorber for an extra smooth ride. Renault Duster on the other hand has used independent multilink suspension for both its front and rear axles.

Safety Features

These SUVs features many safety features for passenger safety such as, ventilated disc brakes for the front wheel and drum brakes for the rear wheels, child safety locks, air bags for both front and back passengers, engine immobiliser and crash sensors among several others.

Verdict

Both these SUVs have several positive features that will conform to different tastes of riders. Both of them are selling at almost the same price range, but Mahindra Scorpio is equipped with a more powerful engine. However if fuel efficiency is one of your top priority, then Renault Duster is a better option for you.
